Del the Funkee Homosapien is still keeping things underground. This is an MC who deliberately stepped away from the mainstream to hone his skills via deep immersion with the
Bay Area crew Hieroglyphics. He just released a triple album,
Golden Era, full of beats that bring to mind the spirit of West Coast rap circa 15 years ago. And, keeping in mind that he released his first album in 1991, his lyrical skills have not suffered.
“I make records even if you don't buy 'em,” he said on a recent single, and that's a sentiment from an artist who truly enjoys his craft. Check his Bandcamp page and pay what you like for several different releases.—
